The International Spatial Humanities Sprint Camp (iSHCamp 2019) is aimed at Early Career Researchers who have an interest in Digital and Spatial Humanities and would like to apply techniques from those fields to their own research. This 3-day event will feature morning workshops and training from experts in the field, followed by an intensive afternoon session where participants can put their newly acquired knowledge into practice, using previously undigitised maps from the TCD Glucksman Library. At the end of the iSHCamp 3-day event, the participants will have produced an online resource for public use using the maps from the Glucksman Library.
Participants will learn skills such applications of GIS, online exhibition techniques and visualisation, as well as more theoretical aspects associated with Spatial Humanities that participants may then apply as an alternative approach to their own data.
As part of this 3-day event, we also want to allow the participants an opportunity to showcase their own work, and how Spatial Humanities relates to their research. To do this, we are making a call for posters to be presented as part of the programme of the 3-day event.
Theme of posters
Poster submissions are invited under the following themes:
- Spatial Humanities and Political Ecology (and how this relates to your research)
- Spatial Humanities and Open Science (and how this relates to your research)
- Spatial Humanities as Interdisciplinary Research (and how this relates to your own research)
Format of posters
- Posters should be A1 portrait (taller than they are wide).
- Posters can be printed in either black and white, or in full colour, although we recommend full colour for maximum impact.
- Posters will be printed at the participants own expense.
Submission of abstracts
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words in length (not including any references), and submitted via the online form. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 5pm (Irish Summer Time) on Friday 13th September 2019 .
iSHCamp2019 Travel Bursary
One travel bursary will be available for the best poster submission (as judged by the organising committee and invited external reviewers). The Travel Bursary will cover flights, accommodation, reasonable subsistence and ground transport up to a total of EU450. The registration fee for iSHCamp will also be waived for Travel Bursary recipients.
A second Travel Bursary is also available for the best reflective blog post submitted to the iSHCamp Reflective Learning Blog before 5pm (Irish Summer Time) on Friday 13th September 2019 .. You can submit to both bursaries if you wish, although if you submit more than one blog post or poster abstract for consideration, we will only accept your first submission.
